Fareed Zakaria is a self-described secular Muslim, whatever the heck that means. He's a "political realist" which is another way of saying "bullsh-- with a classy accent".
He always seemed like he was a closet neocon. I think he tried too hard to get a job in the Bush admin. maybe and it never worked out? And now he's in too deep for Obama to approach him? lol
But isn't he right on most of the time? I think this just goes to show how entrenched the idea of Israeli moral justification is and how disposable life is in the world of geopolitical strategy...
There's two issues here (many more actually, but two main ones):
1. Israel's basic right as a nation to attack Hamas, who's firing rockets into Israel.
2. The manner in which Israel attacked Hamas, which in most people's opinion is tantamount to murder.
Zakaria agreed with the first point and didn't really delve into the second point. I hate to say it but i think most people will find that quite reasonable
agreed, but the interview was only 5 questions long. who knows what was edited/omitted.
hamas does have a basic right to attack israel too. the argument that israel makes is that it actually tries to target militants while hamas can't claim to do the same.
Yeah. The argument that Hamas seems to be making is that since Israel has been strategically using its citizens to take land away from the Palestinians, the Palestinians have a right to attack them.
look- he plays the game better than most. he -and no one else for that matter- would not be in that position if he said what he thought. he never said that the way that they are going about this is justified, but he did say that they are justified in attacking. I don't agree, but then again- im always going to piss people off by being too frank.

WHY, FAREED, WHY? I thought we had something special going.

Yes, but had he been fair he would have also agreed with the Palestinians' basic right to attack Israel, who is dropping 2 ton bombs on children.

Zakaria is a progressive DEVIANT. If you identify with his servile philosophy, make yourselves known and come out of the shadows.
