nadeemtron you did well, thank you so much for doing it. the moderator was very good as well.

one good way to respond to the whole "their mission is to destroy israel" is to ask the whether the israeli govt believes palestine has a right to exist. even when they "pulled out" 9,000 settlers from gaza they were allowing 30,000 new settlers in the west bank. between new settlements and further walling and land-grabbing, it seems israel doesn't believe in palestine's right to exist. and this is happening in the wb, where the ruling government is playing nice.

btw, in the interview grossman said that hamas was elected to rule gaza. i keep hearing this misleading statement all the time, or that hamas seized power. they want people to forget that hamas was legally elected to rule both territories.

hate to see and say it but by the end grossman won.
he basically got it across that if HAMAS was really responsible for its people, they would stop attacking israel from "civilian centers- schools hospitals etc" and instead rebuild Gaza.

Of course rebuilding is impossible because of Israeli policy which is debilitating whatever's left of a Palestinian state. Economic sanctions, control of banks, blockades, basic quarantine of palestinian cities in the West Bank via israeli settlements and the wall.
If we can't get these points across first- that israel has been destroying any chance of a viable palestinian state much longer than any current conflict we're facing; every issue that arises will be taken out of context, and we'll be left in the dust of "everything would work out fine if HAMAS just stopped firing rockets"
Grossman furhter tied in the whole Iranian influence on HAMAS; the world at large is already sensitive to a 'dangerous' iran and grossman like many neocon pundits are framing negative attention towards Iran; for the purpose imho of eventually mobilizing against them. Israel has made it explicitly clear, that Iran is their biggest regional threat.

on further reflection, Israel's success is achieved by minimizing debate on the context of long term israeli policy; and that's basically what brzenski railed scarborough on.

on positive notes, nadeem i liked how you brought attention to the humanitarian crisis, and that as a result more people are examining israel critically.
the moderator was pretty helpful too, bringing up that no reporters are allowed in, and again tyin in the humanitarian aspect of how norwegian doctors and al jazeera are describing the civilian casualties...

yup. i'm learning how to roll with the questions. the agenda for the debate ended up being very different than the one we were guided to prepare for, but not particularly detrimental to either side. my agenda was to highlight the humanitarian crisis and unprecedented media outrage and let those be the guiding talking points in viewers minds as new, increasingly fair info is reported in coming days. there's just not enough time to talk about everything. at one point i knew i would have to cover either human shields or the statement re: firing from mosques etcetera. And it sucks having to counter a catchy talking point phrase like "human shield" with nothing material behind it other than media obsession instead of covering a nascent american concern such as bombs in gaza mosques and schools, which absolutely needs to be covered. anyway, thanks for the heads up.

Good interview. very entertaining (oh so many things wrong with that!)

Needed more stats - israeli vs palestinian deaths.

Grossman never did put himself in the shoes of the palestinian from his answer to stop firing and accept foreign influence with hilarious (yeah lets listen to the IDF/Mossad and CIA shall we).

pointer for even more improvement:
1 - don't say "we". I think it would've been effective to say I don't represent the palestinians, I wasn't elected by them nor am I a palestinian. Otherwise ppl think muslims are the only ones supporting palestinians whereas it should be all for humanitarian causes.

2 - you should've grilled him more on the iran issue!!!

3 - stop swivelling in your chair... it's almost charming ;) lol

plus you wouldn't expect israeli settlers to remain in Gaza when the IDF has clearly planned yrs in advance to pull a lebanon on them!

Hey I am impressed by your debate. It's always very difficult to argue about this issue.

How do you prepare anyway ? Do you spend times checking all the different news reports ? Did you get all the questions before the day of the interview ?

Anyway nice work

@Waleed,
Thanks! Yeah I just read a lot and debate with people on both sides of the issue to get a clear understanding of likely arguments and possible misunderstandings on my side. I got a list of potential questions as did Grossman, but they changed them so we (or at least I) had misprepared some of my main talking points. It was obvious to me that Grossman was more broadly ready for such an eventuality and had apparently been writing talking points and position pieces for days prior to the interview as well.
